Things to Do in Guthrie

The historic downtown Guthrie area spans more than 30 acres and includes more than one hundred structures. In 1999, Guthrie was designated a National Historic Landmark and is one of the largest historically preserved districts in the nation. You might be surprised by the many things to do in Guthrie.

You will enjoy walking our brick streets, viewing amazing architecture while shopping our downtown stores, and visiting Guthrie’s museums and galleries.

As the first state capital of Oklahoma, Guthrie is rich in history and has a variety of artists, which range from glassblowers, jewelry designers, world famous boot makers to musicians.

Museums

  • Visit the smallest National Park in the United States.

  • Tour one of the largest Masonic lodges in the world, which contains the 3rd largest pipe organ in the world.

  • Travel back in time to the pioneer days when you visit the Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library.

  • The Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore has a large collection of memorabilia from frontier pharmacies and early drug stores.  Next door is The Apothecary Garden.

  • Oklahoma Territorial Sports Museum contains a large collection of sports memorabilia.

Festivals

  • '89er Celebration:  This event celebrates the birth of Guthrie, which started with the Land Run of 1889. It is commemorated with an 1889 baseball game, the famous ‘89er Day Parade, multiple car shows, a chuckwagon feed, and a carnival. It falls on the 3rd weekend of every April.

  • Red Brick Nights:  Just voted the best new event in Oklahoma.  Enjoy live music, food trucks, and pop-up shops on the first Saturday of every month from May through September.

  • Oklahoma’s International Blue Grass Festival features top bluegrass bands from all over the world.  You can enjoy a children’s tent, music workshops and Guthrie’s world-famous Byron Berline Band!

  • Guthrie Escape Art/Wine/Music Festival:  This is an outdoor event that is located on the downtown streets of Guthrie.  You can browse artist booths while tasting wine from our local wineries.

  • Territorial Christmas:  This is Guthrie’s busiest season and begins with our opening night ceremonies and inauguration of our Territorial Governor. The Historic Homes Tour allows you to step inside some of the beautiful homes and lofts located in Guthrie. The highlight of our Territorial Christmas is the Victorian Walk - shop windows all over historic downtown Guthrie host live scenes depicting Christmas in the Oklahoma Territory. Adding to the festivities, carolers and peanut vendors roam the streets.

Other things to do in Guthrie

  • Play golf.  Guthrie is home to five spectacular courses,

  • Enjoy a live performance play at The Pollard Theater.

  • Take in a rodeo at The Lazy E Arena.

  • The Trolley Tour can be boarded on the corner of 2nd and West Harrison.

  • Visit Highland Park and play frisbee golf, tennis or go swimming in the public pool.

  • Shoot skeet at Silverleaf Shotgun Sports.

  • Experience a Ghost Walk.

  • Take a glass blowing class.

  • Paint with Tipsy Artist.

  • Shop, shop, shop our eclectic downtown stores.

  • Eat and drink at a variety of restaurants and coffee shops.
